Journey through Lent to Easter 2020 with the West Hereford Team
Join us as we go on a journey through Lent and the events of Holy Week, to the sorrow of the Cross on Good Friday, and beyond to Easter Sunday and the joy of the Resurrection.
“Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return. Turn away from sin and be faithful to Christ”
These words are spoken over each person on Ash Wednesday as a cross is marked in ash on their forehead. A powerful reminder of our mortality, and the faithfulness of Christ to forgive our sins. Join us on 26th February at All Saints at 12.10pm or St Nicholas’ at 7.30pm for our Ash Wednesday services.
We have 2 Lent Courses taking place this year. One for teenagers and one for anyone. Click here for information about the Lent Course aimed at teenagers: Christian Ethics Today starting on Wednesday 4th March.
Our second Lent Course begins on Monday 9th March and looks at Prayer: Famous Prayers and the Way We Pray. We have some excellent speakers choosing famous prayers to speak on or telling us how they pray today. These speakers include Bishop David Thomson, Dean Michael Tavinor, Prebendary Kay Garlick, and Anna Nugent, Ecumenical Officer for Hereford Diocese. Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday when we remember Jesus entering Jerusalem to shouts of “Hosanna, King of Kings” Some of our churches will invite donkeys to be part of their joyful procession.
However, as we journey through Holy Week we remember how quickly the mood turned: The Last Supper, the betrayal of Jesus, the arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane, Peter’s denial of Jesus, the trial and finally the Crucifixion leave us with a sense of emptiness and sorrow as we come to Good Friday. Holy Saturday is left empty for this reason.

The emptiness of Holy Saturday is joyfully left behind as we celebrate on Easter Sunday. Christ is Risen : He is Risen Indeed!
Our celebrations begin with a Dawn Service to welcome in the light as we remember that Jesus, the light of the world has defeated death and risen again. Click here for our Easter Day Services across the Team.
