New Licensed Lay Reader

We are delighted to welcome Michael Weaver as a new Licensed Lay Reader in the West Hereford Team Ministry.

Mike was licensed by Bishop Richard on Saturday 28th September 2019 in Leominster Priory at a joyful service of celebration and thanksgiving for the ministry of our Lay Readers.

He then preached his first sermon as a Licensed Reader on Sunday 29th September at Holy Trinity. The congregation of St Nicholas’ was able to join Holy Trinity for the service, which was followed by lunch for people from across the Team churches.

The journey to become a Licensed Lay Reader begins with a sense of calling to ministry, a process of discernment and application to the diocese to support that calling, and then the training begins. Mike has undertaken three years of training and has now been licensed to preach, lead services and minister across the West Hereford Team. At his licensing however, we were all reminded that our learning does not end when our training courses end, but that these milestones and markers are simply steps on the journey as we all continue to learn more of what God wants to do in and through us.

Mike joins an existing team of very experienced Readers (Malcolm Robertson, Chris Webb and Stuart Vince) and we are very much looking forward to seeing how God works through Mike as he continues on his journey.
